Where to Stay in Zermatt
Luxury ski chalets in Zermatt are in high demand. Due to strict planning regulations, new properties rarely enter the rental market. Therefore, if you’re planning to visit during peak season, we recommend booking your accommodation well in advance.
As the resort is quite spread out, location is crucial when renting a chalet in Zermatt, especially if you want to avoid walking for miles in your ski boots. While there are no true ski-in/ski-out chalets in Zermatt, most of our properties are located near a bus stop or within walking distance of one of the three lift stations.
These are the Gornergrat railway (next to the main station in the centre of the village), the Sunnegga funicular (beyond the river) and the Matterhorn Express (located upriver, over half a mile from the main train station).
You’ll find smaller apartments close to the village centre, whilst larger chalets such as Zermatt Peak tend to be located further out, perched high above the village. However, what you sacrifice on distance to the centre, you gain on spacious living and spectacular mountain views. Another peaceful spot for luxury chalets in Zermatt is the charming hamlet of Winkelmatten, around a 15-minute stroll from the centre.
Although Zermatt is car-free, it’s easy to get around with free buses and electric taxis. You might even spot the odd horse and carriage trotting through town.
